Checklist for the Fact-Finding Meeting

If you have difficulty locating some documents or information before the fact-finding meeting, we can gather this information at a later time.


General Information:

  • Checking account balances

  • Savings Account balances

  • Credit card debt (payment, interest rate, payoff amount)

  • Mortgage (purchase date, original loan, balance, payment, extra payments)

  • Current value of home(s)

  • Other debts - auto, education, etc (purchase date, original loan, balance, payment )

  • Current saving strategies (401(k) contributions, IRA contributions, etc.)

  • Income information

  • Pension information

  • Last two year’s income and taxes paid (Federal, State, Local)

  • Contact information for your CPA, estate planner, or other advisors (we will only contact them if needed and only with your permission)

  • Budget estimate in five categories (medical, property tax, charitable giving, basic, discretionary)

  • Password to your wireless network (if we are meeting in your home we will need this for our laptops)


Copies of most recent statements for:

  • Retirement Accounts (401(k), 403(b), Keogh plans, IRA, Roth IRA, Pension, Annuities, etc.)

  • Brokerage accounts

  • College savings accounts (529 Plans, Coverdell ESA Plans)

  • Social Security

  • Insurance policies (Life, Disability, Annuities, Long term health care, Auto, Home)


Please be prepared to share your attitudes and values associated with:

  • Debt

  • Funding your child(ren)'s education

  • Retirement
